WordPress – Facebook ‘like’ button
I was looking for a decent facebook like plugin for WordPress for a long time, and haven’t found one, which could meet all my expectations. So I’ve decided to modify one, because GPL gave me the opportunity.
The new vesion is available: Facebook Like (Recommend) Button WordPress plugin by kms.
The plugin’s page on WordPress.org: Facebook Like (Recommend) Button by kms on WordPress.org.
UPDATE: The 1.1.0 version is corrected for the stuck hungarian language issue, from now on the blogás language should be copied into the settings.
Let’s see what it has to offer.
Seemless integration into the blog.
It is a great help for all who do not wish to get dirty pushing bits around, and that was the reason for not having a like button. Or someone who does like to get bit-dirty, still has good use for the settings panel, but does not want to give up on maximum configuration oversight. So let’s dive into the details.
After installation a new menu item will show in the left-hand menu, from here we can setup all the aspects of the button.
Display
There are three available display modes, as follows:
Normal | Box | Button |
---|---|---|
Another part of the look-and-feel is the counter in the bubble.
Which pages should display it
It is possible to put the button on the front page, or at the posts on detail view. These two are independent of each other, but the numbers besides the buttons on the front page and post page will show the same number.
Position related to content
It can be shown above or below a post, or even on both places at the same time. Selecting the floating mode additional inputs will be available.
Top and bottom space
Spaces can be given in percentage, pixel or any other measure, as long it is css-compliant.
Button’s position
Fix: the button is tied to the browser’s window, it will not move even on scrolling.
Absolute: the button is tied to the top left corner of the document, so it will move with the content on scroll.
A little SEO
We can have the script for the button on the bottom of the page, the content gets loaded first, and this can give us a few good points at the people who are browsing using a stopwatch.
Manual placement
At last a little piece for those, who like to tweak around templates and have full control over all the pieces. If you like the settings page, but do not want to sacrifice overall control for it, select “manual” placement and insert the code
<?php km_fbl_share(); ?> |
where you’d like to see the button.
The new vesion is available: Facebook Like (Recommend) Button WordPress plugin by kms.
Happy tweaking!
Squid authentication module WordPress – Google ‘plus one’ button
Hi, I started to use your Facebook plugin, it is best around.
I have my website in two languages: Italian and English, made using Qtransalte plugin. At the end every post appears two times, in this way:
http://www.domain.com/it/postexample
http://www.domain.com/en/postexample
Well, why I have (for example) for the same post called “postexample” 6 likes fot IT version and 10 likes for EN version?
I would like to join the count and having 16 likes in total for any single post (even if in teo languages).
Moreover, how I can add any single like to my Facebook page? I would like that every person that have clicked on “like” now will receive my update…
Where I can insert “URL to like” as showed at http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/
Please let me know if all is clear.

Dear RI,
The version 1.1.0 reads the url from the blog-engine, and uses that as a base for the likes. This is the reason why you have 6+10 likes for the two languages, and not 16 for the same post.
With 1.1.0 there was no option to give a specific url, it calculates only from the engine.
I’ve created 1.2.0 now, based on your problem/idea, and now there is an option to give a specific url in, but you have to use the “manual” placement mode for that to work.
In that mode you can set all the parameters on the admin page, but you’ll have to write the code < ?php km_fbl_share([url_to_link_to]); ?> somewhere into your template files (post.php, single.php and similar files).
I strongly hope this will help you. Should you need more specific instruction on use, or any other help with it, please let me know.
Buona notte, ciao,
Andrea

As of my tests, yes it will work, but some other factor might modify the outcome.

Heya! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any trouble with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing months of hard work due to no backup. Do you have any solutions to protect against hackers?
